ENGINEERING DOCUMENTATION Lifetime records are becoming an increasingly important company asset.  This is not just to demonstrate regulatory compliance.  It is also essential for reducing lifetime operating and maintenance costs as well as minimizing ‘end of life’ decommissioning. Electronic record keeping is the way forward, but with the variety of hardware and software platforms available, it is extremely difficult to identify the best solution.  Coupled with Electronic Document Management Systems (EDMS) and off-site record keeping options, electronic document and record retrieval is making major inroads into the traditional concept of paper based solutions. However, this isn’t such a clear cut option for small/medium sized companies, which still rely heavily on paper systems, especially when new records have to be integrated into an existing system and documents.
